Did you get a chance to visit the Tart Collections store on Mt. Diablo last year? If you didn’t, sorry – it’s gone now. Don’t worry about Tart Collections, though. Closing the store was the plan all along.

Tart Collections in Lafayette, CA -- "Temporary Pop-up" in 2011

Tart Collections Lafayette CA Temporary "Pop-up" - Now Closed

“It was a temporary pop-up,” explained Tart Collections co-founder and local resident Dana Finegold, during a recent telephone interview.

The Lafayette store was never intended as a long term venture, said Finegold. Tart Collections had an opportunity to use the Mt. Diablo location while the property owner waited to build out the space.

The “pop-up trend” has been making headlines and is more prominently seen in today’s retail market. Halloween and Christmas stores? Those are popular seasonal examples. The pop-up trend has moved beyond the holiday merchandise realm, with companies taking advantage of access to shorter term leases on retail space to achieve specific strategic goals that can include increasing brand awareness, reducing inventory, testing markets, and/or experimenting with a new business idea.

For Tart Collections, the Lafayette pop-up store offered an opportunity to build local awareness for what is becoming an increasingly strong national fashion brand.

It was time, though, to move on.

Clocktower Moves Forward with Renovations

“We are pleased to have had Tart as a pop up shop at the Clocktower and look forward to the new renovations,” says Clocktower’s Property Manager, Craig Semmelmeyer of Main Street Property Services.

That work is beginning now that Tart Collections has moved out. This includes retrofitting the space and making it ADA compliant, an effort that is happening while the City is also working on the sidewalks. As for news of a new tenant for that Clocktower Retail Space, there is no official word yet. By the time to dust clears from all the various projects, I’m sure we’ll know more.

Where can you buy Tart Collections clothing Now?

The clothing is available at various boutiques around the Bay Area and nationwide. Check the Tart Collections website for a current list.

Meanwhile, keep looking… you never know which celebrity will be caught out and about in something from Tart Collections!
