Concert at the Res - May 12, 2012, 11am-2pm at Lafayette Reservoir at the new permanent stage!

After 18 years performing from a temporary stage, the 2012 Lafayette Concert at the Reservoir will perform from the new permanent stage at the Lafayette Reservoir on Saturday, May 12th concert (11 a.m. to 2 p.m.).

You’ll find the stage on the East End of the Dam. The stage is adjacent to a shady picnic area, public restrooms and the children’s playground.  Once you have parked walk East (to your left) towards the reservoir trail.  The Stage is about 150 feet from the parking lot.

For the May 12th event,, a shuttle van will be used to pick up guests in the parking lot and drop them off at the trail entrance.  A golf cart will be available to take those guests that need help up the hill to the new stage.   Raffle tickets will also be available to purchase with great prizes including weekend get-a-ways.  The proceeds are used to fund the Rotary Clubs public service projects and local bands.

Thanks to EBMUD and the Lafayette Community Foundation, the stage will be able to provide a venue for many upcoming performances at the Reservoir.

Originally conceived by Lafayette resident and Rotarian Dick Holt to help our local schools, Lafayette Rotarians has since 1996 hosted an afternoon of music each Spring featuring local bands including Acalanes High School, Stanley Middle School, Bentley School and the Rossmoor Big Band.  This annual concert has raised money to supply Lamorinda and Bay Area Schools with new instruments for their music programs.

Originally conceived by Lafayette resident and Rotarian Dick Holt to help our local schools.  With the addition of the new stage, the show will go on and on for years to come.  This year’s event includes legendary Bob Athayde conducting the Stanley Symphonic Band, the Stanley Concert Gold Band, the concert Green band all together.   Mo Levich (recent Jefferson Award recipient) leading the Big Band of Rossmoor, Norm Dea and the Acalanes High School Symphonic Band and Brian Pardo leading the Bentley Jazz Ensemble.  A special highlight this year is the invitation to Oakland’s Westlake Middle School, to play with the Stanley Bands.  Directed by Mr. Randy Porter.

Along with the music, food and beverages will be available.  You can pack a picnic and don’t forget your beach chairs and blankets.

After searching unsuccessfully for an alternative location, LHC owner Debbie Swigert made the difficult decision to close the club.

The club will be sorely missed by its over 600 members who will have their memberships transferred (at the same dues) to Walnut Creek Sports and Fitness.  As a result of the club’s closing, all equipment and furnishings is being sold. Interested parties should contact  Ms. Swigert.

The Lafayette Chamber would like to thank Debbie and her team for all the support they have shown our Chamber Members over the years.  A member since 1994, Debbie devoted many hours to the Lafayette Reservoir Run, Health and Business events and programs that enriched our community and our lives.

Here’s a recently produced video that highlights some of the many programs LHC offered. Thank you Debbie!  The neighborhood will miss you dearly!

Debbie invites all current and past members to a “goodbye party” on Saturday, May 5th “to the LHC we all know and have loved for the last 31 years!” The festivities start at 4:30 and since it is Cinco de Mayo they will have margaritas and chips and dips Etc.  The club will provide  blenders and ice. Guests are invited to bring their favorite margarita mix (virgin or non virgin).
